Appearance
Body and tail fairly stout. Snout anteriorly rounded. Mouth well in front of the eyes. Spiracles below the eyes. Both dorsal fins equal-sized, about the same size as pelvic fins. Origin of first dorsal fin over the insertion of pelvic fins. Anal fin ends right in front of the caudal fin.
Coloration
Numerous white spots on a dark brown body, with some darker brown or blackish transverse bands.
Distribution
Indo-Western Pacific: India, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, China, Taiwan, Japan, Philippines.
Biology
A little-known species. Common, lives at the bottom of inshore waters.
Diet
Feeds most likely on invertebrates.
Size
Maximum size about 95 cm, average size between 60 and 80 cm.
Reproduction
Egg laying (oviparous). Males reach sexual maturity at about 67 cm, females unknown.
Similar Species
Other bambooshark have a similar appearance but the coloration is unique, making this species very distinctive.
